Coach Garcia

Coach Garcia enters his fifth season as Vaquero cross country Head Coach, following one year as a Vaquero assistant. In his first season as Head Coach, Garcia was the Men's Head Coach and the last four years has taken over the Women's program to become the skipper of both programs.

2005 was a bitterweet year for the lady Vaqueros. After another Mt. SAC victory and multiple qulaity showings in invitationals the Vaqueros fell victim to the Wolf Pack at Grossmont League Finals. However, the next week the lady Vaqueros had a quality C.I.F. to capture a 3rd place finish and a state meet berth. At Woodward Park in Fresno the lady Vaqueros raced to an overall 13th place finish in the state!

2004 was an amazing year for the Lady Vaqueros. They won every invitational that they entered, they had one loss in a dual meet to West Hills which was avenged at League Finals to give the Lady Vaqueros the League Title to end West Hills streak of 7 titles in a row. The Vaqueros followed this up with a 5th place finsh at CIF finals.

Under the tutelage of Coach Garcia the Vaqueros have never finished worse then second place in League competiton. In the same time period the Women's team finished seventh in 2001 and sixth in 2002 and 2003 then moving up a spot in 2004 with a 5th place finish which has been capped by an amazing 3rd place finish and state meet berth in 2005 in C.I.F. competition with 24 teams competiting in their division. This year Coach Garcia looks to continue the streak of moving up in the rankings.

2005 was a great improvement year for th Vaqueros despite no titles to show. A loss during the dual meets on a 6th runner tie breaker eventually cost them the league title, but the Vaqueros had one of their best finishes ever at Mt. SAC with a 2nd place effort. The Vaqueros improved on their previous 3 years at C.I.F. with an 8th place showing.

2004 was an amazing year for the men's team as well as they also ended West Hills dominance ending their streak of  8 straight League Titles. In 2004 the Vaqueros also placed the entire Varsity team (Top 7 runners) in the top 10 in league earning all of them all-league status. The Men's team during Garcia's tenure finished sixth in 2001 and then  three consecuitive years (2002, 2003 and 2004)  in the ninth position until 2005 in which they finished 8th at CIF. They too look to improve on previous years rankings.

Individually the Vaqueros have had four trips to the California State Meet under Garcia. With two trips on the male's side, one in both 2001 and 2002. On the female's side in 2003 the Vaqueros sent former Vaquero Cassie Atkinson to the State Meet after a seventh place individual finish in the C.I.F. meet. Then last year the Vaqueros qualified the entire girls team with an eventual 13th place finish.

Coach Garcia ran both Track and Cross Country at El Capitan from 1996-2000.
