Anthony Garcia

Head Coach

Coach Garcia enters his 6th season as Vaquero Track and Field Head Coach, following two years as a Vaquero assistant. During this same amount of time Coach Garcia has also been the head Men's Cross Country coach for seven years, and the Women's coach for six years.

Coach Garcia is the head distance coach for the Vaqueros. The group of distance runners is traditionally the largest for the Vaqueros with an average number of about 35 runners. The distance runners have finished with numerous league titles in all events from the 800 meters to the 3200 meters.

However,  with some changes in the coaching staff this year, Garcia will focus more of his attention in places other then the distances. Primarily Coach Garcia will direct the hurdlers, but he will have a hand in distances and relays as well.

Under the tutelage of Coach Garcia the Vaqueros have never finished worse then second place in League competition.

Individually the Vaqueros have had 4 trips to the California State Meet under Garcia. With former Vaquero Cassie Atkinson becoming the first Vaquero female to make the state finals as well as becoming the first Vaquero female to medal at the state meet following a sixth place performance in 2004.

Coach Garcia ran both Track and Cross Country at El Capitan from 1996-2000.

Coach Hines was coached by the legendary East County Track Coach, Dick Wilkins, during his prep career as a Granite Hills Eagle. Since that time Coach Hines has been a competitive bike rider competing in a variety of  length and types of courses. He also had a very prolific career as an Ultra- Marathoner with numerous top finishes as well as course records.

The knowledge that Coach Hines has amassed during his many years as a competitor has served the Vaqueros well. This year promises to be another positive one for the Vaquero distance runners as Coach Hines will continue to share this knowledge with the young athletes.
